Swimming Pool Fiberglass LiningÂ
Bermuda Pools regularly carries out swimming pool renovations, swimming pool repairs as well as swimming pool fiberglass linings throughout the greater part of Cape Town.
Every single month, we inspect damaged or leaking fiberglass lined swimming pools for insurance companies & homeowners & in the majority of cases the problems or damages that we find are due to poor workmanship or incorrect materials used. Sadly the customers that we talk to have been unable to reach the original “contractor” because they either no longer exist or they avoid all their calls & insurance companies will usually reject any claims where it is found that the cause of damage is due to poor workmanship or incorrect materials.
Fiberglass Lining or Marble Plastering of a swimming pool, when carried out correctly, is not a cheap process. Materials are very costly & therefore any “cheap quote” inevitably leads to regret over time. What’s even worse is that if poor workmanship does exist, the only guaranteed remedy is to remove & undo all of the poor workmanship before carrying out a new fiberglass lining on a swimming pool.
There are unfortunately hundreds of unregistered, inexperienced “pool contractors” in Cape Town that simply lack the necessary skills & knowledge required to provide you with sound, reliable workmanship.
With older swimming pools, damages found are sometimes due to general old age / wear & tear of the fiberglass lining while in the other cases the damages may be due to customer negligence (improper maintenance, chemical imbalances, staining, overheating of the pool water etc.). However, the sad truth is that in the Western Cape their is no official government regulation & so the majority of cases are due to poor workmanship.
A new fiberglass lining can look amazing upon completion, even if the fiberglass lining is applied to the swimming pool incorrectly or if inferior materials are used, but this is short lived & when issues begin to show up the fiberglass lining will need to be completely removed &/or redone.
It inevitably ends up costing a homeowner way more as the poor workmanship must first be “undone” before a new fiberglass lining can then be applied to the customers swimming pool. Ultimately it will always cost far less to carry out a fiberglass lining correctly the first time around by doing the correct research & making use of an experienced, NSPI registered swimming pool contractor.
We have seen it all; old swimming pools made to look almost new again by using cheap epoxy paints, rubber or PVA type paints, cementitious paints & more which last from a few days to maybe 1 or 2 years before problems start to manifest. In reality there is no guaranteed “cheaper alternative”, no matter the sales pitch or promises.
There are only 2 x guaranteed & long term, industry recognized products that have stood the necessary test of time namely, Fiberglass Lining & Marble Plaster.
